Off the Presses

My thanks to Dan Aubrey.

THANK YOU READING
and Q & A on Sun. June 14 at 2pm via Zoom.

Three Sea Stones is a distillation of images and themes present in my debut collection Memento Tsunami.  Poet Dennis Nurkse has written about my work:

It seems to stand at the interstices between all languages. And like Char and Ponge, (she) cares about words as things in themselves, in the architecture of the natural world. The poems are landscapes and the landscapes are poems.

My gratitude to publisher MaryAnn L. Miller and Lucia Press.  Lucia Press is a small poetry and artist book press founded by poet, printmaker and book artist MaryAnn L. Miller. Lucia Press builds upon MaryAnn L. Miller’s decades-long work with Lafayette University’s Experimental Printmaking Institute. MaryAnn has collaborated on artist books with poets Nikki Finney, Sharon Olds, Lee Upton and Marilyn Nelson, among others. Her work is held in the collection of many museums including the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and the Smithsonian Museum.

Only a few copies left of this original limited edition of 75 signed and numbered copies.  $25 + $4 s/h.  Check to Lucia Press, 18 George’s Place, Clinton NJ .

Please join MaryAnn L. Miller, the publisher of Lucia Press and poet Vasiliki Katsarou

READING GERTRUDE STEIN’S The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas

America is my country and Paris is my hometown
I’ve been reading Gertrude Stein’s The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas–  so gossipy & engaging & fresh, though it’s describing a world of 100 years ago.
A long while ago,  I took  a deep dive into the world of Mina Loy, but somehow never did read this book by Gertrude Stein  in which Mina makes a short but memorable appearance.
But my inner ear is activated when occasionally, Stein’s subject is the  ‘greeks’
and Greece:
As in, early on  in the book:
“…a sister of Penelope who was a little actress (..) had accompanying her a very large dark greek cousin.
He came in to see Gertrude Stein and he looked around and announced, I am greek, that is the same as saying that I have perfect taste and I do not care for any of these pictures.”
  (i.e. Picasso & Matisse)
And then this v. interesting snippet mingling automobiles with Emerson which was too long to type out so I recorded myself reading it!   –>from The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas

More Recent Writing on Film:

I wrote about British filmmaker Joanna Hogg ‘s latest film The Souvenir
for the #DirectedbyWomen blog. Along the way, I tried to come to terms with my own  film school years: https://directedbywomen.com/on-the-souvenir/
My thanks to Barbara Ann O’Leary and Seventh Row
Thank you to poet and editor Rob McLellan!
